Invisalign®

One of the primary concerns people often have about braces is how they will look on their teeth. As an alternative, Invisalign® is an almost invisible system that straightens teeth.

Invisalign® treatment consists of a series of custom-made clear aligners that gradually move the teeth. Each aligner is worn for 7-14 days. The patient is given a few aligners at a time, and comes back to the orthodontic office to make sure tooth movement is accurate and to receive the next set of aligners. Additional benefits of clear aligners is that they can be removed for eating, hygiene, and the occasional social engagement.

What kind of bite problems can Invisalign® correct?

Invisalign® can correct many of the same problems as braces, but not all. The best candidate is somebody that has a fairly good bite with mild to moderate crowding or spacing.  After your consult with Dr. Maull, she will let you know if clear aligners are a good option for you.

What does Invisalign® treatment involve?

Initial diagnostic records (photos, radiographs, models and measurements) must first be taken to create a treatment plan. Three-dimensional digital models are then used to plan the desired tooth movement and visualize the final result.  Once planning is complete, a unique set of aligners is made just for you.  The total number of aligners needed to straighten varies with each individual, but we can give you a general idea of how long your treatment will be at your consult.

What are some considerations when wearing Invisalign® trays?

Aligners must be worn 22 hrs/day to be effective.  When you take them out for long periods, the teeth drift back to their previous position so that the aligners never completely fit. Please also be aware that you can only drink water with the aligners in.  Eating or drinking anything else will result in tooth staining and cavities.
